AGARTALA: On the occasion of the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Ravidas, a sacred urn of soil brought from his birthplace, Kashi (Varanasi), was handed over to BJP district presidents by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha here today.
The urn had earlier been kept at Shri Shri Ramakrishna Saradeshwari Math on Akhaura Road, from where the Chief Minister formally presented it to the district-level party functionaries as part of the commemorative programme.
Alongside the handover ceremony, the math also hosted a Shiv Rudrabhishek and a Shiv Mahayajna, drawing devotees and dignitaries for the religious observances.
Sant Ravidas, revered as a saint-poet and social reformer, continues to be honoured across the country for his teachings on equality and devotion. The 650th anniversary celebrations have seen a series of events organised nationwide, with the ceremonial transport of sacred soil from his birthplace forming a key part of the commemorations in various states, including Tripura.
The programme at Akhaura Road saw participation from party leaders, math officials, and local residents, reflecting the significance attached to the occasion both religiously and politically.
