SHANTIR BAZAR: Baikhora Police Station personnel detained a man for allegedly possessing fake currency notes, following a tip-off, officials said on Friday.
Acting on secret information, police detained Babul Mog, a resident of MLA Para, and recovered six fake Rs 500 notes from his possession, amounting to Rs 3,000 in counterfeit currency, according to Shantir Bazar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bappi Debbarma, who briefed the media on the operation.
The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. Police said their preliminary investigation suggests an inter-state network may be involved in the counterfeit currency trade, and expressed hope that the operation could help identify and apprehend larger figures behind the racket.
A case, numbered 23/2026, has been registered against the accused at Baikhora Police Station under Sections 179/180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the fake notes and any wider network linked to the accused.
