Agartala: Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury has strongly condemned an alleged attack by miscreants at a house in Kalachhara, in which family members were assaulted and a housewife allegedly molested, accusing the ruling BJP of sheltering those responsible.
According to Chowdhury, the miscreants first attempted to force entry through the main gate before breaking through a smaller one, entering the premises and targeting householder Mrinal Sen and his son. When Sen and his wife tried to intervene, the woman was allegedly molested and both were physically assaulted. The attackers fled after neighbours arrived at the scene.
Chowdhury alleged that a group of BJP-backed strongmen has operated in Kalachhara since 2018, engaging in the “looting” of government property, occupation of community halls, and interference in panchayat functioning, creating what he called an atmosphere of lawlessness over the past eight and a half years.
He further alleged that despite the Chief Minister’s public assurances of “zero tolerance” following the incident, the situation on the ground tells a different story, claiming such assurances often shield the ruling party rather than ensure action.
Chowdhury demanded immediate arrest and strict punishment of the accused, warning of a mass movement if action is not taken swiftly.
