Agartala, Aug 17: Durga Puja preparations at Tushar Sangha Club in Chandrapur got underway on Monday with the traditional Khunti Puja, marking the ceremonial start of this year’s festivities amid due religious customs and rituals.

The club has set a budget of Rs 22 lakh for this year’s celebrations, with the pandal theme drawing inspiration from the iconic Dakshineswar Kali Temple in West Bengal. Organisers said the theme is expected to recreate the temple’s distinctive architecture, offering visitors a glimpse of the revered shrine on the banks of the Hooghly.

Club convener Biswajit Roy and club secretary Krishna Saha were present at the Khunti Puja ceremony, along with other club members and residents of the locality.

Tushar Sangha Club has been among the prominent community organisers of Durga Puja in the Chandrapur area of Agartala, drawing large crowds each year. With work now officially begun, club members said preparations for the pandal and idol will gather pace in the coming weeks ahead of the festival.
