AGARTALA: Left Front leaders on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the state government over alleged failures in healthcare, power supply, law and order, and welfare delivery, demanding immediate corrective action.
Addressing a press conference, Left Front convener and former Power Minister Manik Dey said the ban on private practice for GBP Hospital doctors had worsened an already strained healthcare system and demanded its withdrawal. He also criticised a steep hike in fixed electricity charges, alleging the Power Corporation was passing on the burden of its own financial failures to consumers.
Dey demanded a Special Investigation Team into the death of a Tripura Shanti Niketan Medical College employee, calling the circumstances unclear, and cited an alleged rape case in Anandanagar, alleging a collapse of law and order and inadequate action to ensure women’s safety. He further alleged rising drug abuse, deteriorating national highways, unemployment-driven migration, and forceful eviction of hawkers without alternative arrangements.
CPI state secretary Milan Vaidya flagged teacher shortages in schools and non-functional water and power schemes, while RSP secretary Dipak Deb alleged rising crime and drug trafficking via railways.
