KHOWAI: The CPI(M) on Monday submitted a deputation to the Khowai District Social Education and Social Welfare Department, alleging that allowances under various social welfare schemes have remained stopped for several months.
The programme was attended by Khowai MLA Nirmal Biswas, along with other CPI(M) leaders and a large number of party workers and supporters.
Through the deputation, the party demanded prompt clearance of pending allowances and assurance of regular disbursal going forward. Protesters alleged that beneficiaries under various social schemes—including the elderly, widows, and persons with disabilities—have been facing severe financial hardship due to the prolonged non-payment.
They urged the department to immediately release the pending dues and ensure uninterrupted payments in the future. At the conclusion of the programme, department officials accepted a memorandum from the CPI(M) delegation.
Agitators warned that if the issue is not resolved swiftly, they would launch a larger mass movement in the coming days.
