Woman Killed, Teenage Girl Injured in Kalachhara Road Accident; ASI’s Vehicle Allegedly Involved

KALACHHARA (South Tripura): A woman died and a teenage girl was injured in a tragic road accident near Kalachhara railway station on Sunday morning, in an incident allegedly linked to a vehicle reportedly being driven by an Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to Shantibazar police station.

According to local sources, Savita Das (approximately 45), a resident of the area, was preparing to step out for her morning walk when a speeding Wagon R car (temporary registration TR9400C), reportedly headed from Agartala to Sabroom, allegedly lost control and struck her along with 10-year-old Sangeeta Roy, daughter of neighbour Kamal Roy, who was accompanying her. The vehicle then reportedly crashed into a roadside restaurant before ploughing into the house of Amulya Das.

Locals alleged the vehicle was being driven by ASI Purnya Tripura of Shantibazar police station; however, no official statement has been issued by police in this regard.

Residents rushed the injured to Kalachhara Primary Health Centre. Savita Das, whose condition reportedly deteriorated, was referred to Shantibazar District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Sangeeta Roy remains under treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
