Dharmanagar:The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s North Tripura District Committee organised a protest march and public rally in Dharmanagar on Thursday, alleging that CPI(M) State Secretary and Politburo member Jitendra Chowdhury made derogatory remarks insulting Sanatan Dharma.
Sanatani followers gathered in large numbers in front of the Vivekananda Sardha Shatabarshiki Bhavan and began a protest march that wound through the town’s main thoroughfares before converging into a rally at the foot of the Netaji statue.
Addressing the gathering, VHP leaders strongly condemned the remarks attributed to Chowdhury, demanding an unconditional public apology and stating that any insult to Sanatan Dharma would not be tolerated.
The rally was attended by Purna Chandra Mondal, Organising Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for the Northeast region, along with the entire leadership of the VHP’s North Tripura District Committee. The Maharaj of the ISKCON temple, Dharmanagar, was also present among the dignitaries.
Organisers said the protest was aimed at registering the sentiments of the Sanatani community and sending a strong message against what they termed disrespect towards their faith and traditions.
