KHOWAI: Two college students drowned in a tragic incident at Ichalichhara stream in the Dholabil area of Khowai on [date], leaving their friends and the local community in shock.
The deceased have been identified as Mandeep Paul (20), a resident of Deoliatilla, Dholabil, and Bhishma Das Chowdhury (20), a resident of Bankar, Khowai.
According to reports, the two victims were among a group of five friends who had gone to bathe in the Ichalichhara stream when they got swept into deeper water and drowned before their companions’ eyes. The remaining friends reportedly raised an alarm, and local residents rushed to the spot, but the two could not be saved in time.
The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination, sources said. Police from the local station reached the scene to carry out necessary procedures following the incident.
The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over both families and the wider student community, with locals renewing calls for caution around unsupervised bathing spots, particularly during the monsoon season when water levels and currents tend to be unpredictable.
