AGARTALA: Students of PM SHRI Marachhara Class XII School in Komalpur locked the school gates and boycotted classes on Tuesday, protesting what they described as the humiliation of a teacher over an alleged molestation complaint.
According to students, the protest was triggered by allegations of misconduct levelled against the teacher, which they claimed amounted to defamation of his character.
The students staged the lockout as a mark of protest, disrupting normal academic activities at the school for the day.
Details of the original allegation against the teacher, including who raised it and through what forum, have not been disclosed. The school administration and education department are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
The incident has drawn attention in the Komalpur area, with questions being raised over the circumstances that led to the allegation as well as the students’ protest in support of the teacher.
