Sonamura Police Seize 45.5 Kg Cannabis from Border Area, but Culprits Escape

SONAMURA: Police from Sonamura police station seized 45.500 kg of dried cannabis from the border area near Matinagar on [date], but failed to apprehend anyone in connection with the haul.

According to sources, the seizure was made following a tip-off about suspicious movement of contraband in the border-adjacent locality. Acting on the information, a police team rushed to the spot and recovered the cannabis, which had reportedly been concealed in the area, believed to be intended for smuggling.

However, despite the sizeable seizure, those responsible for transporting or storing the contraband managed to flee the scene before police could take them into custody. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.

The seized cannabis has been taken into police custody, and a case is understood to have been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigations are underway to identify and track down those involved in the smuggling attempt.

Officials said that the border areas of Sonamura have frequently been used as transit points for cannabis trafficking, and police have stepped up vigilance in the region to curb such activities.
