Software Scam Unravels: Youth Held for Duping Citizens Online

AGARTALA: Police arrested a young man, identified as Pritam Das, for allegedly duping people on social media by collecting money from them under the guise of “Insiscai Softtech Private Limited,” a private company.

The case came to light after Tanushree Roy, manager of the company, lodged a complaint at NCC police station, alleging that Das had been fraudulently using the company’s name to extract funds from unsuspecting individuals through social media platforms. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and subsequently detained Das from the Banikya Choumuni area.

He was produced before the court on Saturday, with police seeking judicial remand for further interrogation in connection with the case, said NCC police station Officer-in-Charge Prajit Malakar.

Police are now probing the extent of the fraud, including how many people were targeted and the total amount allegedly siphoned off using the company’s name. Investigators are also examining whether Das acted alone or had accomplices in carrying out the scam.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain cautious of such social media-based schemes and to verify the credentials of individuals or entities seeking financial transactions in the name of established companies before parting with money.
