AGARTALA: In a alarming shift, organized snatching gangs have begun expanding their operations from urban centers into rural pockets of Tripura, leaving ordinary citizens devastated.
The latest incident occurred on Thursday morning at Jugal Kishore Nagar Gram Panchayat, under the jurisdiction of the Srinagar Police Station near Agartala. Subhadra Debbarma, the wife of a daily wage labourer, was walking to her MGNREGA work site when two bike-borne criminals approached her from behind. Before she could react, the miscreants forcefully snatched a gold chain valued at ₹1.20 lakh from her neck and fled the scene at high speed. One of the riders was reportedly wearing a helmet to conceal his identity.
Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to help and attempted to intercept the fleeing motorcyclists, but the culprits managed to escape.
Upon being informed, the Srinagar police rushed to the spot, inspected the crime scene, and retrieved CCTV footagefrom the Gram Panchayat office to track the suspects’ movements. A rigorous investigation has been launched. The victim, whose husband saved for years through manual labor to buy the ornament, has appealed directly to the police administration for the swift arrest of the culprits and the recovery of her gold chain.
