SONAMURA: A pall of gloom descended on Bhabanipur village under the Jatrapur police station following the tragic death of a fourth-grade schoolgirl due to a venomous snakebite on Thursday evening.
The deceased child has been identified as Amena Khatun, the daughter of Abu Taher, residing in Ward No. 5 of the village. According to family sources, the incident occurred when Amena went to the domestic cattle shed to untie the livestock as instructed by her mother. While handling the cattle, a hidden venomous snake bit her on the leg. Sensing a sharp sting, the young girl immediately alerted her mother.
Family members rushed to the shed and spotted the snake before rushing a deteriorating Amena to the Kathalia Community Health Centre. Given her critical condition, doctors administered first aid and immediately referred her to the Sonamura Subdivision Hospital in Melaghar. However, despite all efforts, the attending doctors at Melaghar declared the young girl brought dead upon arrival.
The untimely demise of the young student has left her parents and relatives entirely devastated, casting a deep shadow of grief and mourning over the entire local community.
