AGARTALA: Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday informed that the state government has collected Rs 35 crore in revenue through traffic challans, underlining the administration’s push for stricter enforcement of traffic rules.
Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day workshop for police officials, the Minister said the government’s objective goes beyond revenue collection, with a strong focus on making people more aware of road accidents and safe driving practices.
He said sustained enforcement, combined with public awareness campaigns, was essential to bringing down the number of road mishaps in the state and encouraging greater compliance among motorists.
The Minister added that stringent action under traffic rules was necessary to instil discipline among drivers, while urging citizens to follow traffic regulations voluntarily rather than merely to avoid penalties.
He also expressed hope that such workshops would help police personnel enforce the Motor Vehicles Act more effectively, contributing to safer roads across Tripura.
