PANISAGAR: The MGNREGA Engineering Technical Department in Panisagar subdivision has come under scrutiny following allegations of irregular staff attendance and substance abuse during office hours, with residents accusing the administration of turning a blind eye.
Locals alleged that several employees of the department remain absent during designated working hours, disrupting routine official work. More seriously, some residents claimed that certain staff members consume intoxicating substances within office premises, alleging that the office has come to resemble a “clubhouse” rather than a functioning government department.
The allegations have sparked discontent among residents, who said continued irregularities at the department would severely affect public access to MGNREGA-related services.
Questions have been raised in various quarters over the administration’s apparent inaction despite the allegations, with locals further claiming that some employees operate without regard for political or administrative oversight.
The department and district administration have not yet issued an official response to these allegations. It remains to be seen whether authorities will investigate the claims and take corrective action.
