BISHALGARH: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Bishalgarh Police on Saturday night unearthed a huge cache of Escouf cough syrup buried underground at the residence of a notorious drug peddler in Noapara.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Khokon Ali, allegedly a habitual offender in the local drug trade. During the search, officers detected unusual digging near a vehicle shed on the premises. Upon excavation, the police recovered several buckets and pitchers stuffed with bottles of Escouf cough syrup, buried beneath the soil to evade detection.
Officials said the consignment is suspected to have been part of a larger network supplying the syrup, which is reportedly being misused as a substitute intoxicant amid tightening restrictions on conventional narcotics in the region.
Despite the seizure, Khokon Ali managed to evade arrest and is currently absconding, police said. A manhunt has been launched to track him down, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended distribution of the consignment.
Police have appealed to residents to report suspicious activity in the area as part of the ongoing anti-drug drive in Bishalgarh subdivision.
