BISHALGARH: A mysterious pit dug near the Charilam-Kanaibari railway bridge area under Bishalgarh Police Station triggered panic among residents of Brajapur Kanaibari after it was spotted during the early morning hours.
According to locals, the pit, suspected to have been dug under cover of darkness, was first noticed by residents who had gone out for their morning walk. Panic reportedly spread across the area within moments, following which the matter was reported to Bishalgarh Police Station.
On receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the spot and launched an on-site investigation. Subsequently, in the presence of residents and police, soil was cleared from the pit, after which only a length of wire was found inside, according to locals.
The exact purpose behind the pit remains unclear, and investigations are reportedly underway to ascertain the matter further.
Speaking to the media, residents alleged that more regular night patrolling by Bishalgarh police in the area could possibly have prevented such an incident, raising questions over the adequacy of existing patrolling measures near the sensitive railway bridge stretch.
