Lost in Transit: Dinabandhu Nagar Residents Stranded as Culvert Lies Buried for 5 Years

MANDAI: Residents of Dinabandhu Nagar area under the 11-Mandai Bazar Assembly constituency are facing severe hardship due to the absence of a proper road connecting Bhabachantai to Kamanmura, with not even basic brick soling laid on the stretch.

Locals said they are forced to travel daily on a risky, unpaved kutcha road. Adding to their woes, a box culvert that once stood on the route was washed away by stream water nearly five years ago and has not been rebuilt since.

Residents alleged that despite repeated appeals, the concerned department has shown no initiative to construct a new culvert or road, and claimed that local MLA Swapna Debbarma and ADC member Jagadish Debbarma have remained unresponsive to their plight. The department and the representatives named have not yet responded to these allegations.

Speaking to the media, villagers said that even as the country moves toward becoming a global leader, their area continues to lack basic infrastructure, including proper roads and drinking water facilities, in 2026.

They urged authorities to take urgent steps to restore connectivity and address the long-pending demand for a new culvert and road.
