Light House Project Delay: Protesters Storm TUDA Office Over Alleged ₹7 Lakh Scam

Agartala: Tensions flared at the Agartala Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA) office on Monday as members of the All Tripura Light House Project Beneficiaries Association staged a massive protest and submitted a deputation over prolonged delays and alleged financial irregularities.

According to the beneficiaries, the centrally sponsored Light House Project—designed to provide affordable housing to urban poor—was officially scheduled for completion by 2022. However, four years past the deadline, the construction remains incomplete, leaving hundreds of families stranded.

Protesters expressed severe frustration, alleging that despite paying ₹7 lakh each toward purchasing their promised homes, they have received neither possession nor clear updates. The association openly accused the authorities of corruption and embezzling public funds.

“We invested our hard-earned savings into this project believing the government’s promises,” a protesting beneficiary stated. “Now, we have no house and no answer as to where our ₹7 lakh went. The government has failed us.”

Seeking accountability, a delegation from the association entered the TUDA office to demand a direct meeting with top departmental officials. They warned of intensified, state-wide agitations if immediate transparency regarding the project’s status and financial status is not provided.
