AGARTALA: Commuters travelling along the Radhanagar–Mohanpur road were left stranded on Saturday after Commander jeep drivers halted vehicular services following a clash and alleged physical altercation with toto and e-rickshaw drivers.
According to sources, the dispute broke out between Commander jeep drivers and e-rickshaw operators, prompting jeep drivers operating from the Agartala Radhanagar Motor Stand to completely stop plying vehicles on the Mohanpur route. Bus drivers subsequently extended solidarity with the jeep drivers and also refused to operate their vehicles, effectively bringing traffic on the route to a standstill.
The sudden halt in services left a large number of daily commuters stranded at multiple points along the route, including those travelling towards Khowai, Kamalpur, Simna, and Mohanpur. Passengers were reportedly left waiting for extended periods with no alternative transport readily available.
The exact cause of the clash between the two groups of drivers could not be immediately verified. It remains unclear whether police or transport authorities have intervened to resolve the dispute or restore services.
Commuters have expressed frustration over the disruption, with several reportedly forced to seek alternate and costlier means of transport to reach their destinations.
