AGARTALA: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty on Saturday alleged that the country was in the grip of a severe financial crisis, and dismissed the upcoming “Destination Tripura” Business Conclave as a futile exercise, questioning who stood to benefit from it.
Addressing a press conference alongside SC Department Chairman Niranjan Das and Youth Congress Pradesh President Nilkamal Saha, Chakraborty alleged that despite repeated investor visits and past business summits under BJP rule, the state government had offered no clarity on outcomes. He claimed rising unemployment was pushing youth to migrate outside the state and abroad, while external debt continued to grow.
Chakraborty also questioned the status of promised projects, including a fertiliser factory and an AIIMS facility, and demanded a full public report on the previous business summit. He further alleged that flood-affected farmers, vegetable growers, and rubber cultivators had not received adequate compensation.
On census work, he demanded that unemployed youth be engaged on contractual basis instead of teachers, citing past precedent.
Calling the conclave a pre-election exercise ahead of 2028, Chakraborty appealed for unity against what he termed “fraudsters and plunderers.”
