CHARILAM: A fresh complaint has emerged against the North Lalsingmura New Colony Anganwadi Centre under Charilam Block, with locals alleging that children at the centre have not been taught to sing the national anthem, despite the centre’s caregiver herself reciting it.
According to residents, while the anganwadi worker stands and sings the national anthem on her own, she has allegedly failed to teach the children under her care to do the same, leaving them unable to recite it. Locals say the lapse points to a deeper failure in the quality of early education being delivered at the government-run centre.
The allegation comes days after the same centre’s caregiver, Alka Debnath, faced criticism over habitually arriving late to duty, fuelling further concern among residents over the functioning of the anganwadi centre and the standard of care and education provided to young children there.
Residents have called on the Social Welfare department to look into the matter and ensure that anganwadi workers fulfil their basic educational responsibilities towards the children enrolled.
