MAYNAMA: Nearly 70 farmer families in Ward No. 5 of Maynama Gram Panchayat continue to suffer due to the dilapidated condition of the only road serving their area, despite repeated promises of repair since 2018.
Residents said the road, their sole route to transport agricultural produce to market, turns into an impassable stretch of mud and water during the monsoon, cutting off ambulances, schoolchildren, and ordinary commuters alike. The area also lacks any proper drinking water facility, compounding residents’ woes.
Farmers said delays in reaching the market due to the road’s condition often force them to sell produce at lower prices, hitting their already strained incomes hard.
Villagers have urged Boxanagar MLA Tofazzal Hossain to ensure urgent road construction, alleging that political promises during elections have repeatedly failed to translate into action.
Responding to the concerns, the Maynama Gram Panchayat Pradhan said the panchayat was aware of the road’s condition and that the tendering process was in its final stage, with construction expected to begin within three months. A separate project to address the drinking water shortage has also been undertaken, the Pradhan added.
