AGARTALA: The police of Agartala’s East Police Station returned 26 mobile phones, lost by their owners at various times, in a handover ceremony held on Monday after due verification.
Sadar SDPO Pannalal Sen, who attended the event, said the phones were traced through sustained investigation combined with technical assistance, following complaints lodged by owners over the loss of their handsets. Once identified, the phones were matched with their rightful owners, who were contacted and asked to complete necessary verification before the devices were handed over.
Several owners said they had almost given up hope of recovering their phones and expressed happiness at getting them back through the police’s proactive efforts. The initiative drew appreciation from residents for the role played by police in safeguarding public property.
SDPO Sen said the police regularly use technical methods to trace lost mobile phones and urged citizens to promptly report any loss at the nearest police station, providing all relevant details to aid recovery.
The East PS police said the exercise had not only reunited residents with valuable belongings but also strengthened public trust in the force, adding that similar efforts to recover lost items would continue in the future.
