AGARTALA: The E-Rickshaw Workers’ Union, Tripura Pradesh, took out a protest march from in front of Rabindra Bhavan on Monday, raising an 11-point charter of demands. The procession culminated at the office of the West Tripura District Magistrate, where a deputation was submitted.
Union leader Asim Dutta of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) alleged that traffic police were routinely detaining e-rickshaw drivers and imposing fines on them. He claimed that action was being taken against e-rickshaws registered in panchayat areas for plying within city limits, calling the practice unjustified.
Dutta demanded an immediate end to what he described as unwarranted detention and harassment of e-rickshaw drivers by traffic police. He said such measures were adversely affecting the livelihoods of workers who depend on e-rickshaw operations for their daily income.
Besides this core grievance, the union placed several other demands concerning workers’ welfare and interests before the District Magistrate as part of the 11-point charter.
The union urged the administration to look into the matter urgently and take corrective steps, warning that the issue directly threatens the livelihood security of e-rickshaw drivers across the district.
