NABINAGAR: An eight-year-old boy drowned in a river at Mukter Hossain Para (Bazarpara) in Nabinagar on Monday afternoon, triggering a hours-long rescue operation involving fire service and NDRF personnel.
The child, identified as Ajmir Hossain, had gone to play by the river with his elder brother when he was swept into the water. On being alerted, teams from the Fire Service department and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
After several hours of sustained effort, the child’s body was recovered from the river on Monday afternoon.
Local MLA Sushanta Deb also visited the site upon learning of the incident.
The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the locality, with residents expressing shock at the sudden loss of the young boy.
