Drain Encroachment Cleared at Agartala Court Premises

Agartala: The Agartala Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive at the court premises after finding that a structure had been illegally built by encroaching upon a drain in the area, sources said.

The reconstruction, which had reportedly come up over the drain, was flagged during a routine inspection by civic authorities. Officials moved in with demolition teams to clear the encroachment, restoring the drain to its original path and preventing further obstruction to the water flow in the vicinity.

Encroachment on drains has been a recurring concern in Agartala, particularly during the monsoon season, when blocked or narrowed drainage channels contribute to waterlogging in low-lying and congested areas of the city. The court premises, being a high-footfall zone, had reportedly seen the unauthorised structure come up unchecked for some time before the Corporation’s action.

Officials indicated that similar drives may continue in other parts of the city to identify and remove encroachments obstructing municipal drains ahead of the peak monsoon period.
