Kalyanpur: Panic gripped the Bagan Bazar tea garden area under Dwarikapur Panchayat, within Kalyanpur police station limits, after the decomposed body of a man was found floating in a local pond.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjit Tanti, 47, son of Sachindra Tanti, a resident of the locality. According to family sources, Tanti had reportedly been leading an erratic and troubled lifestyle owing to severe substance dependence. He had gone missing from home over the past four to five days, though the family had not been able to trace his whereabouts until the discovery of the body.
Local residents first noticed the body floating in the pond and immediately alerted the police. A team from Kalyanpur police station promptly reached the spot and took charge of the situation. Given the advanced state of decomposition, identification and further examination are being carried out with due procedure.
The body has been recovered from the pond and will be sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police said a probe has been launched to ascertain whether the death was the result of an accident, or whether any foul play was involved.
