KOIFANG: Residents of remote Debkumar Para under Koifang ADC Village have voiced sharp anger over the alleged absence of basic amenities, after a pregnant woman reportedly had to be carried nearly eight kilometres on a makeshift stretcher to reach the nearest health centre.
Located about nine kilometres from Koifang Bazar, the village remains cut off by roughly four-and-a-half kilometres of unpaved terrain that residents must still cover on foot. Villagers allege the area lacks a pucca road, adequate drinking water supply, an Anganwadi centre, a school, and a health centre.
The incident involving the pregnant woman, which drew widespread attention after being shared on social media, has triggered questions over the role of local administration and elected representatives in ensuring basic services reach the area.
A village youth, speaking to reporters, said residents have long demanded minimum services but alleged no lasting solution to the road, healthcare, and education crisis has emerged despite repeated appeals.
Residents have demanded immediate construction of roads, drinking water facilities, health services, and the setting up of a school and Anganwadi centre in the village.
