SIPAHIJALA:The Tripura Police Crime Branch, in a joint operation with Sipahijala district police, destroyed a large cannabis nursery in the Manikya Nagar area under Kolmachoura police station on Wednesday afternoon.
Acting on specific intelligence, teams from both units launched a special drive targeting illegal cannabis cultivation in the locality. The operation resulted in the destruction of an estimated 2 lakh cannabis saplings, officials said. The seized haul carries an estimated market value of around Rs 24 lakh.
The joint action underscores the growing coordination between the Crime Branch and district police units in cracking down on narcotics cultivation across the state. Sipahijala district, which shares porous terrain suited to clandestine plantations, has repeatedly emerged as a hotspot for such illegal nurseries in recent years.
Officials indicated that the operation forms part of a broader, sustained crackdown on drug cultivation networks operating in the region. Further details regarding arrests, if any, and the identity of those behind the nursery were not immediately available.
Police said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
