Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee staged a gherao of the Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday, demanding an urgent judicial inquiry, led by a sitting judge of the High Court, into the mysterious death of Director General of Police Anurag Dhankhar.
Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, and other senior party leaders were present at the demonstration, describing Dhankhar as a fearless, honest, and dutiful officer whose death under unclear circumstances demanded immediate and impartial investigation.
Raising slogans outside the CM’s residence, Congress leaders asserted that a judicial inquiry was the only way to ensure transparency and restore public confidence, given the sensitivity of the case and the officer’s stature within the police force. They alleged that continued silence from the government had only deepened suspicion surrounding the circumstances of his death.
The party demanded that the state administration act without delay to constitute the inquiry and make its findings public. The gherao added to mounting political pressure on the government, with opposition parties and civil society sections alike calling for clarity on the incident in recent days.
