Aralia’s Only Lifeline Road in Ruins, Residents Warn of Larger Agitation

Sonamura : The only access road serving the residents of Aralia has turned into a virtual death trap, with large potholes and craters forcing people to risk their lives during daily travel. Despite repeated appeals to the administration for repair, residents allege the road has been neglected for a long time, leaving thousands who depend on it — for hospital visits, emergencies, and everyday commuting — in constant distress.

Locals say even a light spell of rain worsens the condition of the road, at times making it impassable, and allege that during accidents, fire service vehicles struggle to reach the spot in time due to the road’s poor state. Multiple deputations submitted earlier seeking repairs have yielded no permanent solution.

Residents further allege that although local MLA Tofazzal Hossain had ensured land for road construction, work came to a halt after only half being completed. PWD Assistant Engineer Biplab Taran has assured residents that the remaining work will be completed soon.

However, residents say they are no longer willing to accept assurances alone. They have warned that if repair work does not begin within 15 to 20 days, they will launch a larger agitation, including blocking four major roads in Sonamura.
