Khowai : The Khowai Subdivision Committee of GMP, TYF and TSU organised a mass sit-in programme in Khowai, pressing for a 9-point charter of demands concerning tribal welfare and governance issues in the state.
Among the key demands raised were the announcement of Village Committee elections, creation of dedicated job centres within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The programme saw the participation of several senior leaders, including former Minister Naresh Jamatia, former CEM of TTAADC Ranjit Debbarma, and former MLA Padma Kumar Debbarma, along with other party functionaries and a large number of workers and supporters.
Addressing the gathering, speakers strongly backed the 9-point charter and urged the concerned authorities to take swift steps toward implementing the demands without further delay. They emphasised that the issues raised — ranging from local self-governance to employment opportunities and linguistic recognition — remain long-pending concerns for the tribal population of the state.
The organisers indicated that further action would be considered if the demands continued to go unaddressed by the administration.
