Agartala: Agartala Mahila Vishwavidyalaya organised a Partition Horror Remembrance Day programme on Friday, with college students taking out a rally that paraded through the city to commemorate the sacrifices and sufferings endured during the Partition of India.
The rally, comprising college girls carrying placards and national flags, wound through key stretches of the city, drawing attention from residents and passers-by as students paid tribute to victims of the Partition.
BJP state president Abhishek Deb Roy attended the programme among other dignitaries, lending political significance to the university-led initiative. His presence underscored the ruling party’s continued emphasis on remembrance programmes tied to the nation’s Independence Day observances.
The event forms part of a series of Partition Horror Remembrance Day programmes being held across educational institutions in the state this week, aimed at educating younger generations about this significant chapter of India’s history alongside the ongoing Independence Day celebrations.
University officials said such initiatives are intended to instil a sense of historical awareness and national pride among students, while honouring those who suffered during one of the most turbulent periods of the subcontinent’s history.
