Mohanpur: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Airport Police Station achieved a major success by seizing 12 kilograms of ganja from West Narayanpur, an area under its jurisdiction that has long been considered a hotspot for drug-related activities.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, police conducted a raid in a forested area near the India-Bangladesh international border and recovered six packets containing a total of 12 kg of ganja. According to police sources, the contraband was allegedly stored for smuggling into Bangladesh.
Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sushanta Deb of Airport Police Station said that the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. However, the suspected drug traffickers managed to flee the scene after apparently getting wind of the police action.
Police have registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation into the matter.
West Narayanpur, located along the India-Bangladesh border, has often been identified as a vulnerable area for narcotics trafficking. The latest seizure highlights the ongoing challenge faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal drug trade in the region.
Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved, while strengthening measures to combat drug trafficking in the border area.
