Agartala/Amtali: Residents of Bikramnagar, under Amtali police station, allegedly caught two couples in a compromising situation on Saturday evening, following long-standing complaints that a house in the area was being used to bring young and married women from Agartala for an alleged immoral racket. Angry locals reportedly assaulted those caught before police arrived.
According to sources, a journalist covering the incident was assaulted by one of the accused women, who allegedly snatched and smashed his mobile phone. The attack on the media reportedly intensified public outrage, with local women joining the protest against the alleged racket.
Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control, taking one accused into custody. Two men and a woman allegedly linked to the case are said to have fled before police arrival. One of the accused has been identified by locals as Priyam Banik of Dholeshwar, Agartala.
Police said an investigation is underway and further arrests are expected. Residents have demanded strict action against all those involved.
