Teliamura: Tension gripped the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital on Sunday morning after family members of two tribal youths killed in a bike accident objected to the post-mortem being conducted before the actual cause of the crash was established.
Sanjay Debbarma and Bishu Kumar Debbarma died on Saturday evening when their motorcycle met with an accident at Magbari area on the Assam-Agartala National Highway, near the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office under Teliamura police station.
On Sunday morning, when hospital doctors attempted to begin the post-mortem in the presence of police, family members and a gathered crowd raised objections, demanding clarity on the circumstances of the accident first. The situation grew tense around 10 am, prompting Teliamura police to remain stationed at the site amid prolonged efforts to persuade the family.
Around 2 pm, a police officer and MDC Jiten Debbarma reached the hospital and assured the family that the actual cause of the accident would be thoroughly investigated and brought to light. Following the assurance, the family and locals agreed to the post-mortem, after which the bodies were sent for examination.
Questions remain, however, over the exact circumstances of the accident and whether any negligence was involved, with a clearer picture expected once the post-mortem report and police investigation are complete.
