Agartala: A citizen has alleged that a portion of his house at Ram Thakur Lane, adjacent to Durga Chowmuhani Bazar, has been forcibly encroached upon by a group of youths, allegedly in the name of a local club.
The affected homeowner, identified as Biswajit Sarkar, said the land in question is khas (government) land that had been in his possession. He claimed several other houses in the area similarly stand on khas land, but that only the portion under his occupation has been targeted for takeover.
According to Sarkar, he had earlier allowed a destitute couple to live on the land. Following their deaths, a section of local youths reportedly moved to seize the space.
Sarkar alleged that despite repeated appeals to the local police and the sub-divisional administration, no action has been taken so far, leaving the family distressed and without recourse.
The matter has raised concerns among residents over the alleged encroachment of government land and the administration’s inaction. No official response from police or administration has been available yet.
