AGARTALA: Four students from Tripura returned home this week after a memorable first trip outside the state, having celebrated Raksha Bandhan with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Meheresia Sarkar, Pratik Sarkar, Rikey Deb and Amit Kumar Sarkar, all students of Netaji Nagar English Medium SB School in West Tripura, were invited to the presidential residence for the occasion. The delegation was led by Abhijit Samajpati, OSD of the School Education Department, and accompanied by teachers Biswajit Bhowmik and Biplab Deb.
The students tied rakhis on the President’s wrist and presented her with a gift symbolising the Mata Tripureswari Temple along with a traditional Tripura risa, representing the state’s culture and heritage. They also gifted her handmade rakhis and greeting cards.
School and education department officials described the meeting as an emotional moment, with the students’ simplicity and creativity leaving an impression at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Officials said the visit gave the young students a proud opportunity to showcase Tripura’s traditions on a national platform.
The delegation returned to Agartala on Tuesday, sharing their experience with reporters at Agartala railway station.
