Agartala: CPI(M) legislators staged a walkout from the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday in protest after Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was expelled from the House over the alleged suicide note linked to former DGP Anurag Dhankar’s death.
The confrontation unfolded after Question Hour, when Roy Barman once again sought to raise the issue of the suicide note, referring to the DGP’s wife, who had recently arrived in Agartala and claimed to possess a photograph of the note. He demanded to know why the note had not been made public and questioned whether his uniform had been properly checked.
Speaker Rampada Jamatia intervened, and when Roy Barman did not immediately leave the House, directed police personnel to remove him from the premises. Roy Barman subsequently walked out, and CPI(M) legislators joined him in the walkout, registering their protest.
The Opposition strongly criticised the Speaker’s decision, accusing the ruling side of blocking questions on the circumstances surrounding the DGP’s death. The walkout added to the tense atmosphere in the House, with the Opposition continuing to press for greater transparency and accountability regarding the alleged suicide note.
