Ration Shop Manager Accused of Cheating Customer, Harassment at Bamutia

Bamutia: A manager at the Bamutia government fair price shop in Kali Bazar, under Mohanpur subdivision’s Food Department, has been accused of attempting to cheat a customer of his ration supplies and subjecting him to harassment and misbehaviour.

According to the complainant, when he arrived to collect his ration, his fingerprint was scanned three times, after which manager Mohan Das claimed the rice had already been handed over to him. When the customer objected, Das reportedly told him to take the matter to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office. The customer agreed, on condition that Das bear his travel expenses — a demand that allegedly triggered further harassment.

When the customer subsequently approached the SDM’s office, Das reportedly agreed to release the rice after all, a reversal that local residents say exposes the earlier claim as false.

Das has previously been named in a financial scam involving the Lakshmilunga PACS, according to residents, who said Monday’s incident points to a repeat pattern of misconduct.

Local residents and the complainant have demanded strict action from the subdivisional administration and Food Department, questioning how daily-wage families can afford repeated trips between the ration shop and government offices to access basic entitlements.
