KANTHALIA (SIPAHIJALA): A massive Burmese python, measuring nearly 9 feet and weighing around 15 kg, was rescued from the residence of Abul Khayer at Baghaiyachar in Kanthalia in the early hours, triggering excitement among local residents.
The rescue was carried out at around 2:58 am by the Animal Aid Alliance Welfare Society. Two snake rescuers based in Kanthalia, Asim Majumdar and Lokai Dey, jointly handled the operation to safely capture the reptile.
The duo, who have so far rescued nearly 305 snakes from human habitations and released them into forest areas, were assisted by Yatrapur Police Station’s officer-in-charge Prarthanath Bhoumik and Sub-Inspector Prasenjit Debnath. The officers provided their vehicle to transport the rescuers and the python to Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, where it was subsequently released into the wild.
News of the rescue spread quickly through the densely populated locality, with residents expressing surprise over how such a large python had entered the area. A festive crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the snake before its release, with many praising the rescuers for their prompt action. When the python was brought to the local market in the morning, both men and women turned up in large numbers to see it.
