AGARTALA: Members of the GMP, TYF and TSU staged a joint mass sit-in demonstration in front of the Swami Vivekananda statue here, raising two key demands — cancellation of the existing recruitment process in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) and passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
The three organisations demanded that recruitment already carried out in the ADC be scrapped and all vacant posts be filled afresh through a proper and transparent selection process. They alleged irregularities in the manner appointments had been conducted.
Alongside this, the demonstrators pressed for early passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, calling it a long-pending demand that requires urgent attention from the authorities.
Members and supporters of GMP, TYF and TSU gathered in large numbers at the venue, raising slogans and appealing to the administration to act on their grievances without delay.
Organisers warned that the movement would be intensified in the coming days if the demands were not addressed. The sit-in reflected mounting discontent over the recruitment issue in the ADC, with the three organisations reaffirming their resolve to continue the agitation until concrete steps are taken.
