DHARMANAGAR: A housewife was allegedly assaulted and robbed during a late-night dacoity at her residence in Ward No. 1 of Algapur Gram Panchayat under Dharmanagar Police Station on Monday night, sending shockwaves through the area.
According to police sources, the victim, Payel Roy, opened the door around 11 PM believing her husband, Bikramjit Roy, a “tomtom” driver who was away in Dharmanagar for work, had returned. Unidentified assailants allegedly struck her on the head, gagged her with a scarf, and threatened her with a weapon before fleeing with gold ornaments and cash.
Bikramjit Roy reportedly found his wife lying injured on the floor upon returning home around 11:45 PM, following which neighbours and family rushed to the scene. Payel Roy was treated at Dharmanagar District Hospital and discharged on Tuesday.
Police reached the spot the same night and have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible, and recover the stolen items.
