Agartala: In a major push toward boosting sustainable forestry and commercial timber wealth, a high-level training workshop on “Teak Plantation Management” was organized at Pragya Bhavan. The initiative was collaboratively hosted by the ICFRE-Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB), Coimbatore, and the Tripura Forest Department.
The technical workshop was inaugurated by Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who served as the chief guest. Top-ranking forest officials, researchers, and scientific experts from Coimbatore also graced the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Forest Minister Debbarma emphasized the immense economic and environmental potential of high-quality teak cultivation in the region. He noted that equipping field officials and local growers with modern scientific management techniques is vital to boosting both forest cover and rural livelihood opportunities.
Throughout the technical sessions, experts from ICFRE detailed advanced tree-breeding methodologies, pest-control strategies, and sustainable harvesting cycles designed to optimize timber yield. The interactive workshop concluded with a commitment from the Tripura Forest Department to implement these scientific practices across state plantations to ensure long-term ecological balance and economic self-reliance.
