MGNREGA Employees Face Two-Month Salary Freeze; Submit Deputation to Unakoti DM

Kailashahar: Intense resentment brews among rural development workers as the Unakoti District Committee of the All Tripura MGNREGA Employees Welfare Association submitted a formal deputation to District Magistrate Megha Jain (IAS) on Wednesday. The protest was triggered by a crippling consecutive two-month halt in salary payments, leaving hundreds of contract employees in severe financial distress.

Led by organizational leader Ranjit Hore, a delegation of workers met with the District Magistrate to outline their core grievances. Beyond the immediate release of stuck wages, the association presented a comprehensive list of long-standing demands, including the regularization of staff services, timely monthly salary disbursement, pay hikes, structural increments, and standard financial benefits.

“MGNREGA employees are the backbone of rural development, executing critical field-level responsibilities for various government projects. Yet, we are forced to work under constant financial uncertainty without timely pay,” Hore stated during the demonstration.

According to association representatives, DM Megha Jain gave the delegation a patient hearing and acknowledged the urgency of their grievances. She assured the agitating employees that their demands would be promptly forwarded to higher authorities in the state government for a speedy resolution.
