5.28 Grams of Brown Sugar Seized at Battala Bridge; Seller Held in Late-Night Trap

Agartala: Police carried out a special anti-drug drive in the Battala-Ramnagar area on Friday, detaining around 17 people, including suspected consumers and peddlers, during raids at several locations known for drug-related activities.

According to police, interrogation of those detained revealed that a local supplier regularly arrived near Battala Bridge after sunset to sell drugs. Acting on this information, the Officer-in-Charge of Battala and his team, dressed in plainclothes, laid a trap near the bridge.

Police spotted the suspected supplier arriving to make a sale. While two alleged buyers managed to flee, the seller was detained on the spot. A search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of a packet containing suspected brown sugar, weighing 5.28 grams.

The SDPO (Sadar) and senior police officials reached the spot, while a forensic team from the FSL conducted an on-the-spot test, confirming the substance as brown sugar.

A suo motu case will be registered against the arrested individual. Further interrogation and investigation are expected to identify other persons involved in the drug supply chain, police said.

Authorities said such operations will continue as part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics in the district.
