AGARTALA: Several parts of the capital city of Agartala went under water following a spell of light rainfall on Wednesday, with visuals showing numerous cars and motorbikes submerged, according to visuals and local accounts from the affected areas.
Residents said that even a moderate amount of rain was enough to inundate low-lying stretches of the city, raising fresh concerns over the state of Agartala’s drainage infrastructure.
Vehicle owners in the affected localities reported damage to their cars and bikes after they were left partially or fully submerged in the accumulated water, with several commuters stranded as roads became difficult to navigate.
Locals alleged that recurring waterlogging in the city, even during comparatively light showers, points to inadequate or poorly maintained drainage systems, and called for urgent intervention from civic authorities ahead of the ongoing monsoon season.
There has been no official response yet from municipal authorities regarding the waterlogging or plans for remedial action.
