Dharmanagar: Acting on a tip-off, Dharmanagar police seized a stolen motorcycle bearing registration number TR 05G 5659 from the Jail Road area in Dharmanagar, arresting the accused on the spot.
The accused has been identified as Nitu Das, a resident of Kailashahar. According to police, Das was intercepted while attempting to flee the area on the bike shortly after the seizure operation began.
During preliminary questioning, it emerged that the motorcycle had been stolen approximately five hours earlier from Montola in Dharmanagar. Police said the swift action, based on specific intelligence inputs, helped them trace and recover the vehicle within hours of the theft, preventing it from being taken further away or disposed of.
Following his arrest, Das was taken into police custody for further interrogation to ascertain whether he acted alone or was involved with a wider network engaged in vehicle theft in the region.
Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or unclaimed vehicles in their localities, reiterating their commitment to curbing motorcycle theft cases across the district.
The stolen bike has been recovered and will be returned to its rightful owner following completion of legal formalities.
